We Must Stop Meeting Like This

from Blue Snakes by Villareal

about

'WMSMLT' changed a great deal in the studio, thanks to Joe Bennett's (Goldrush, Dreaming Spires) wonderful horn and string parts! We had a brief discussion where I asked for 'something '70's and soulful' to flesh out an instrumental section of this song, but so good were Joe's melodies that we decided to devote the whole end section to them.
Another of those songs that dealt with my fascination of Bobby Womack's 'Across 110th Street'. Looking back, it was this track (along with my life-long addiction to Sparklehorse and Wilco) that informed our second album more than anything else.

lyrics

She says she's no need for a diary
'Every single day is the same to me
The moment comes along and I watch it pass
Every single story is the same as the last'
IS every single story just the same as the last...?

Chorus

We must stop meeting like this
I've been asleep since the very first kiss
We must stop meeting like this

Lost inside the moment where the lights they don't change
Colour fades to morning when the day remains grey
From the second that I met you the clocks have stood still
Now time is right behind me coming in for the kill
Time is right behind me coming in for the kill

Repeat Chorus

We must stop meeting like this
It's hard to know if I really exist
We must stop meeting like this

Why do the pages stay bank?
Are you just pulling rank, now?
Why, did you write me a part
That will just break my heart now?
